Anna Meares Velodrome, Brisbane with PPG
Client
Stadiums Queensland
Constructed for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, the Anna Meares Velodrome features over 10,000 m² of architecturally exposed structural steel. The specification required a coating system capable of delivering exceptional colour retention, extended maintenance intervals and high-performance corrosion protection within a streamlined application process.
Coating Specification
PPG SIGMAZINC™ 109HS
Zinc-rich epoxy primer
PPG PSX® 700
Engineered polysiloxane finish coat
The two-coat specification was selected in place of a conventional three-coat epoxy/polyurethane system, delivering enhanced application productivity while maintaining long-term asset protection.

Performance Benefits
- High-performance corrosion protection for structural steel
- Exceptional UV stability and long-term gloss retention
- Superior abrasion resistance
- Reduced dirt and mildew accumulation
- Lower lifetime maintenance requirements
- Simplified two-coat specification for improved project efficiency
Project Outcome
The completed coating system achieved the aesthetic requirements set by the project architects while providing long-term protection for the velodrome's exposed steelwork. The use of PPG PSX® 700 enabled improved application efficiency and supports reduced maintenance throughout the asset's operational life.
