A specification was required for the refurbishment of cast iron fence posts and decorative support columns located on a seafront promenade. The project demanded a coating system capable of delivering long-term corrosion protection in accordance with ISO 12944 C5 Very High for an aggressive marine atmosphere.

Coating Specification

RD Elastometal®

Applied as a penetrating mist coat to heavily pitted cast iron to seal porous substrates and maximise adhesion.

RD Monoguard SG

Applied as the finish coat where appropriate, or additional coats of Elastometal depending on substrate condition and specification.

Project Outcome

A recently published independent assessment based on long-term field performance concluded that RD Elastometal® has demonstrated corrosion protection consistent with ISO 12944 C5 Very High in real service conditions. This provides specifiers with additional confidence when selecting water-based coating systems for coastal infrastructure, heritage assets and exposed steelwork where durability and environmental performance are both key considerations.
