The Shard, London, with Sherwin Williams
Client
London Bridge Quarter Development
The Shard required a fully integrated passive fire protection and corrosion control specification for approximately 12,500 tonnes of structural steelwork. Sherwin-Williams collaborated with Severfield Reeve, WSP and Mace to develop a system that could largely be factory applied, reducing programme duration while meeting the project's demanding performance requirements.
Coating Specification
- Macropoxy™ C400V3 epoxy primer
- Acrolon™ C137V2 polyurethane finish
- FIRETEX® C69
- FIRETEX® M95 / FX2002 / FX4000 intumescent fire protection

Performance Benefits
- 20-year external corrosion protection
- 90–120 minutes passive fire protection
- Factory-applied fire protection system
- Improved quality assurance
- Reduced site programme duration
- Long-term aesthetic performance
Project Outcome
The specification enabled significant programme efficiencies while delivering the required corrosion resistance and fire performance for one of Europe's most demanding high-rise developments.
