Wind turbine structures are exposed to continuous environmental stresses throughout their operational life. Effective protective coating specification is therefore critical to controlling corrosion and reducing the frequency of maintenance interventions.
The Tylstrup Onshore Wind Farm in Denmark presented a requirement for a durable coating system capable of withstanding severe weather conditions alongside exposure associated with the surrounding agricultural environment.

Coating System

The system was selected to provide long-term corrosion protection and durability under the environmental conditions experienced at the wind farm.
Long-Term Performance
According to the published PPG case study, the coating system remained intact after almost 20 years in service.
For wind energy asset owners, long-term coating performance can have significant implications for lifecycle cost management. Reducing coating breakdown and extending maintenance intervals can help minimise intervention requirements and support the continued operation of critical renewable energy infrastructure.
The Tylstrup project demonstrates the value of considering whole-life coating performance when specifying protective systems for wind energy assets.
