How to Paint Over Previously Coated Metal
Repainting existing metal requires testing the old coating first. Check adhesion using a small cross hatch test, then clean away loose paint, rust and surface chalking. Sand glossy areas to improve adhesion. Select a compatible primer if bare metal is exposed, otherwise apply a suitable maintenance coat directly over the prepared surface.
